Welcome to Law.com Class Actions: Critical Mass, a weekly briefing for class action and mass tort attorneys. Only 17 new MDLs were created so far in 2021, the lowest in a decade. The privacy litigation against TikTok took a rancorous turn when a new motion accused class counsel of threatening to "take Edelson down" for objecting to the $92 million settlement. Find out which white-collar defense attorney is representing Girardi Keese's former bookkeeper.

New MDLs Could Reach Record Lows in 2021

The U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation's last hearing for 2021 is tomorrow. On the docket is the T-Mobile data breach litigation. It's one of only three cases scheduled to be heard.

By the way: So far this year, there have been only 17 orders creating multidistrict litigation dockets. That's the lowest in a decade, according to the JPML's own statistics. In 2020, that number was 26, up from 21 in 2019, but it's the lowest in the past 10 years.
