Civil rights lawyer and former public defender Jia Cobb was confirmed to a seat on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia Tuesday.
The Senate’s 52-45 vote makes Cobb the fourth Black woman to ever sit on the D.C. District Court, where she will replace Judge Emmet Sullivan, who is taking senior status.
