As Justices Stephen Breyer and Amy Coney Barrett, in separate comments, recently argued the U.S. Supreme Court is not a “bunch of partisan hacks,” a Mississippi abortion clinic cautioned the high court Monday that it will be perceived as “representing nothing more than the preferences of its current membership” if it fails “to hold firm” to a woman’s right to abortion.
The legal battle over the fate of the abortion right was officially joined with Monday’s filing by Jackson Women’s Health Organization in the response to Mississippi’s argument that the landmark abortion rights rulings in Roe v. Wade (1973) and Planned Parenthood v. Casey (1992) should be overruled.
