Javier Guzman, the Biden administration’s pick to run the Justice Department’s civil division, has withdrawn from consideration for the Senate-confirmed post due to “personal reasons,” the White House said late Tuesday.

“We have enormous respect for Javier Guzman’s expertise and record of service, but understand that the candidate has decided to withdraw for personal reasons,” White House deputy press secretary Chris Meagher said in a statement. “We have already begun the work to find another nominee for this important position.”
