Oregon is the first state to weigh permanent alternatives to the bar exam in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, but it’s not going to make any hasty decisions on new paths to lawyer admissions.
The Oregon Supreme Court—which has the final say on attorney licensing within the state—on Wednesday heard a presentation laying out two proposed new ways for attorneys to become licensed that don’t involve the bar exam. But the court declined to take any action on the proposals, saying that it needs more time for the public to weigh in and for the proposals to be fine-tuned.
