As investigations into what caused Thursday’s fatal partial collapse of Champlain Towers South in Surfside are underway, all eyes are on a 2018 engineering report conducted by Morabito Consultants, which found the complex showed “major structural damage” but did not warn of imminent danger.

The report was a “disturbing” signal of what was to come, according to construction and personal injury attorneys, who say it offers crucial lessons for other South Florida condominium buildings.
