With firm mergers expected to take off in the post-pandemic era, the potential tie-up between Thompson & Knight and Florida suitor Holland & Knight could pressure other homegrown Texas firms to act similarly.

By linking with a large national firm, the Texas firms would expand geographic reach and practice areas, and perhaps do better at securing the most desirable lateral hires. But despite market pressures, firms may decide a solo path forward remains the best option.
