As governments and private citizens around the world grapple with the range and implications of artificial intelligence, Darktrace, an AI company specializing in cybersecurity, with headquarters in San Francisco and Cambridge, United Kingdom, has named a new general counsel with an unusual background for this field.

James Sporle, based in London, previously served as a group general counsel and company secretary, deputy general counsel and legal counsel at Just Eat, an online food order and delivery service. He has also served as director and legal counsel at a nonprofit trade association, Receivables Management Association International; an independent consultant at real estate company Marlinspike Limited; a legal adviser at British Petroleum; and an associate at Linklaters. He graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Cambridge in 1998.
