Rudy Figueroa, general counsel for Mitsui Rail Capital LLC, affixes his title to each email he sends so that he’s not mistaken for an analyst, a paralegal, or some other person who’s not involved with whatever transaction or discussion is occurring. Using his title is something he does to answer the question, “Why do I belong here?” It gets tiring, he said.
Figueroa’s was one of many examples that panelists on Wednesday’s Association of Corporate Counsel Foundation “Courageous Conversations #StopAsianHate” webinar shared about the challenges that Asian American legal professionals face in the workplace. The webinar took place just weeks after a gunman walked into three different Atlanta-area spas and killed eight people, six of whom were Asian women.
