After a 35-year legal career—21 of them spent on the federal bench—U.S. Magistrate Judge Andy Austin will retire so he can “play more, work less.”
Austin, who has served as a magistrate judge since 1999 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, has always been a master at juggling his work and personal lives. He said after his retirement he plans to continue serving on the board of directors of The Trail Foundation in Austin, which protects and enhances Austin’s hike-and-bike trail, and the Violet Crown Sports Association, a cycling club. He’ll keep teaching a judicial clerkship class at the University of Texas School of Law, while carving out plenty time for traveling with his wife and practicing his main hobbies of cycling and fly fishing.
