Florida’s Third District Court of Appeal rejected attorney fees of about $442,000 in a home insurance case with a $25,000 settlement, calling the request “excessive and unsupported by the evidence.”

And Travis Miller, the spokesman for appellant Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Co., said the billed amount was absurd. Miller stated a case that involves minimal discovery does not warrant six professionals billing that many hours, or doubling the fees using a multiplier.
