A federal appeals court on Friday, relying on a recent abortion rights opinion from Chief Justice John Roberts Jr., lifted an injunction against four Arkansas laws restricting abortion and allowed them to take effect Aug. 28.

In an unsigned decision, a panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit said Roberts’ opinion in the recent Louisiana case June Medical Services v. Russo was controlling in a challenge to the Arkansas laws and not, as the district court decided, the Supreme Court’s 2016 decision in Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt.
