The saga over the appointment of Florida Supreme Court Justice Renatha Francis continues, as Gov. Ron DeSantis and Judicial Nominating Commission Chair Daniel Nordby have fired back against claims that they exceeded their authority in selecting the jurist before she was technically eligible.

Florida State Rep. Geraldine Thompson challenged Francis’ elevation, arguing she hasn’t been a member of the Florida Bar for long enough. The state Constitution says justices must have been a member for at least 10 years, but Francis has only been a member for nine. That will change Sept. 24, when she’ll officially join the court.
