Health care costs over the past several years have risen at a dramatically slower rate than the pace of growth two decades ago, according to the 2019 Milliman Medical Index.

In the early 2000s, health care expenses were growing by 10 percent a year for a hypothetical family of four, defined by MMI as a 47-year-old father, a 37-year-old mother, and two children, one age 4 and one within their first year of life.
