Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner (BCLP) head of private client litigation Rupert Ticehurst has left the firm to join City boutique private wealth firm Maurice Turnor Gardner (MTG), with his move the latest in a rush of exits from the firm.
Ticehurst, who joined legacy Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) in 2011 from Herbert Smith Freehills, has a background in advising on trusts, wills and tax planning but spends most of his time engaged in litigation.
In 2017, he advised on the trademark dispute over the shape of London black cabs, securing a Court of Appeal victory for Frazer-Nash and Ecotive, allowing them to begin production of their environmentally-friendly Metrocab after a passing-off challenge by the London Taxi Company.
MTG senior partner Clare Maurice said: “We are coming up to our 10-year anniversary and I am proud and delighted to welcome Rupert to the team. We have come through one of our busiest years ever and his arrival reflects our strategy to invest in our top-tier contentious trusts, estates and probate practice.”
His move follows a number of departures from BCLP. The most recent was BCLP’s India group head Deepa Deb’s departure to Dentons last week. Deb had also previously led legacy BLP’s residential group.
Other exits within the last few months include partners moving to firms including CMS, White & Case, McDermott Will & Emery, and King & Spalding.
International arbitration partner Ania Farren also left in August to join litigation funder Vannin Capital as a managing director in September.
That month, BCLP appointed disputes partner Segun Osuntokun as the merged firm’s new London managing partner.
Meanwhile, the firm has recently bolstered its London corporate crime practice with the hire of Mukul Chawla QC from Foundry Chambers, family law partner Elizabeth Hicks from Irwin Mitchell – who heads BCLP’s family asset protection group in London – and project finance partner Tom Eldridge, who joined from Mayer Brown.
