Under pressure from Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr, along with a chorus of leaders from around the state, Jason Spencer resigned his position in the Georgia House of Representatives just before midnight Tuesday.

“This email/letter is to serve as an official resignation notice to your office that I will be resigning my post effective July 31, 2018,” Spencer said in an email to Blue Ridge lawyer and House Speaker David Ralston. A spokeswoman for Ralston said the note came in at 11:18 p.m. Ralston had also asked Spencer to resign.
