Georgia’s U.S. senators were quick to voice approval Monday night as President Donald Trump announced his intent to nominate Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit to fill the Supreme Court vacancy created by Justice Anthony Kennedy’s retirement.

Sens. Johnny Isakson and David Perdue, both Republicans, attended the formal announcement at the White House, designed for prime-time television and starting promptly at 9 p.m. By 9:30 p.m., both senators had released statements cheering the choice.
