The Small Claims Arbitrators Association will host a training session for those interested in becoming a small claims court arbitrator for the Civil Court of the City of New York on Tuesday, July 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Civil Court New York County. Training is almost sold out. In order to be eligible to sit as a small claims arbitrator you must satisfy the following requirements:

  • Be a licensed New York attorney that is registered and in good standing with the New York state bar.
  • Be admitted to the bar for at least five years (two years for current court attorney; you may train before you are eligible to sit as an arbitrator).
  • Complete the small claims arbitrator training; spend one day or evening observing an experienced arbitrator; and complete a brief interview.
