Nancy Carman, MA, CMC, elder care coordinator at Fendrick & Morgan in Voorhees, presented a comprehensive tutorial on “The Economics of Aging” at a program hosted by the Estate and Financial Planning Council of Southern New Jersey (EFPCSNJ) on Feb. 15 at The Mansion in Voorhees. Carman provided a broad range of statistics that underscore the tremendous growth of services now available to the aging population, as well as the reasons for the changing landscape. She noted, for example, that the average life expectancy in the U.S. has gone from 35 years in 1776 to 78.7 years in 2015. Carman also outlined the variety of long-term care options, the scope of services offered by those providers, and range of hourly and monthly fees. Carman, a trained gerontologist and a certified geriatric care manager, has worked for more than 30 years in the field of aging, and now counsels Fendrick & Morgan’s elder clients on long-term care planning.
