Almost two years after a massive data breach resulted in 11.5 million client files being dumped on the internet, Panama’s Mossack Fonseca is getting ready to close its doors at month’s end, according to a statement by the firm made public by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists.

The ICIJ, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit, put a spotlight on the secretive world of offshore law firms with its “Panama Papers” expose in early April 2016 that revealed some of Mossack Fonseca’s most prominent clients. Within a year the firm’s two founders, Ramón Fonseca Mora and Jürgen Mossack, were arrested in Panama on money laundering charges related to a Brazilian bribery case.

“The reputational deterioration, the media campaign, the financial siege and the irregular actions of some Panamanian authorities have caused irreparable damage, whose obligatory consequence is the total cessation of operations to the public,” said the law firm, which was translated from Spanish by the ICIJ.
