Palm Beach Circuit Judge Jeffrey Colbath will be the new chief judge, replacing Judge Peter Blanc this summer.
Colbath, who presides in the criminal division, handled the 2012 drunken-driving manslaughter trial of polo mogul John Goodman and the 2011 murder-for-hire trial of Dalia Dippolito.
