Philadelphia labor and employment firm Spear Wilderman is one step closer to settling two class action suits in the aftermath of a 2021 data breach incident compromising clients’ personal identifiable information and personal health information, with a hearing for final approval of a proposed $1.067 million settlement scheduled for Dec. 20, 2023.

The settlement, filed for preliminary approval on July 28, 2023, proposes that Spear Wilderman pay up to $800,000 to the class of clients impacted by the May 7, 2021, data breach, a separate $266,666.67 for plaintiff attorney fees and other expenses related to the settlement, and $2,500 each in awards to plaintiffs Steven Hassell and Jerome Raniell. The agreement also denies any wrongdoing on behalf of Spear Wilderman.
