Richard “Racehorse” Haynes, the famed Houston lawyer whose dramatic courtroom style made him one of the most famous criminal defense attorneys in the nation, died today at the age of 90.
Nicknamed “Racehorse” by a high school football coach for his running style, Haynes built a reputation as one of Texas’ top criminal defenders through high-profile cases that drew national attention. He was known for re-enacting crime scenes, ridiculing opposing counsel by mimicking them, and acting wildly before jurors.
