Cravath, Swaine & Moore’s latest lawyer addition—Jeffrey Rosen, former acting U.S. attorney general—highlights the law firm’s emphasis on hires with top government experience to fill out its Washington, D.C., office, bolstering its pitch to institutional clients to handle their regulatory work.

All of the firm’s partners and counsel lawyers in the Washington office, which opened last year, had served for several years in the government before arriving at Cravath—something the law firm is leaning on to create market share in a heavily competitive area. The 11-lawyer office is also catching up to other Wall Street firms that landed in the District years ago and have much bigger offices and footprints.
