SAN FRANCISCO — Reed Smith’s San Francisco office has added a finance attorney from Mayer Brown.

Vanessa Gage, who spent three years in Mayer Brown’s New York office, joined Reed Smith as a partner in July.

“Her broad experience in lending and structured financing, which is in high demand on the West Coast, will enhance many of our existing relationships,” said Perry Napolitano, chair of the firm’s financial industry group. “We will also be counting on her as we expand our California presence in the key area of aviation and transportation financing.”

Gage, whose practice focuses on asset-based lending, securitization and other structured products, represented Credit Suisse as an underwriter in the $340 million asset-backed securitization of Element Financial and Element Rail Leasing. She also represented an underwriter in the $336 million asset-backed securitization of a TRIP Rail Holdings subsidiary.

Before joining Mayer Brown, Gage spent almost three years with Chapman and Cutler in San Francisco. Prior to that, she spent an additional three years with Mayer Brown in New York. Joining Reed Smith is “a great opportunity to build up my practice,” she said.

“There’s a growing need among funds, financial institutions, and other organizations where they’re looking for full-service New York-style finance capabilities with people located on the ground, on the West Coast,” she said.

A return to the Bay Area was both a professional and personal move for Gage, an avid cycler eager to get back to the year-round outdoors lifestyle.

“I didn’t make it out this weekend,” she said. “But I got my bike picked up.”
