Of the 3,515 candidates who took the Feb. 27-28, 2001 New York State Bar Examination, 1,548 -- or 44 percent -- passed the test. The pass rate of 44 percent is the lowest in recent years, including last year's low of 44.9 percent. The total number of applicants was up from last year's number, 3,025. The pass rate for first-time applicants, as is typical, was higher, with 58.2 percent, or 807 of the 1,387 novice candidates passing. This was down slightly from last year's first time pass rate of 60.1 percent. The 1,186 candidates who passed and are certified for admission are listed below under the Appellate Division in which they have applied for admission. The 362 candidates who passed the exam but are not certified for admission, because the Board of Law Examiners has not yet received proof they passed the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination, are listed separately.
