Most Revenue
This chart contains a number of firsts. This is the first Global 100; in previous years, we've presented only the top 50 firms in the world. It's the first time a non-U.S. firm, Clifford Chance, has claimed the top spot, which had been the exclusive territory of New York's Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. This is the first appearance by the legal arm of one of the Big Five accounting firms; Andersen Legal makes its remarkable debut in a tie for ninth place. And this is the first time firms from Australia and Canada appear on this chart, which ranks firms by fee revenue.

Revenue figures for American firms are from The Am Law 100, in the July issue of The American Lawyer. Figures for British firms are from The Legal Business 100, in the September issue of Legal Business. Revenue figures for Australian firms are from BRW.com.au, September 27, October 3, 2001. Figures for Canadian firms were obtained through reporting by The American Lawyer. Conversion rates are averages for fiscal year 2000-2001. Lawyer numbers are average full-time equivalent numbers for the firm's most recent fiscal year. Firms classified as international have 40 percent or more of their lawyers working outside their home country. Firms classified as national have no more than 45 percent of their lawyers working in any one region of their home country.
