Revenue figures for American firms are from The Am Law 100, in the July issue of The American Lawyer. Figures for British firms are from The Legal Business 100, in the September issue of Legal Business. Revenue for U.K. firms was converted using 1.6 as the exchange rate. Head counts were obtained from firms; lawyer numbers are average full-time equivalent numbers for the firm’s most recent fiscal year, or as near that date as could be obtained.

1 Figures for Clifford Chance consist of eight months of Clifford Chance and four months of the new firm following the mergers with Rogers & Wells and Punder, Volhard, Weber & Axter on January 1, 2000.

2 Figures are for Linklaters only. Does not include revenue in other firms within the Alliance of European Lawyers.

3 Freshfields merged with Bruckhaus Westrick Heller Lober and Derringer Tessin Herrmann & Wedeund on August 1, 2000, after the fiscal year end covered in this survey.

Compiled in cooperation with Legal Business (London).

Note: Law firms with hypertext links paid a fee to participate in law.com's law firm marketing program. Whether or not a firm participates in that program in no way influences whether the firm appears in the survey, or its ranking.
