Unpublished opinion. Petition for review after the Court of Appeal affirmed a judgment of conviction of a criminal offense. The court ordered briefing deferred pending decision in People v. Cox, S070959 (#98-106), which concerns whether a misdemeanor which requires at least a general criminal intent must also be dangerous under the circumstances of its commission to qualify as the unlawful act for purposes of involuntary manslaughter. 04/24/00

Petition for review after the Court of Appeal denied a petition for writ of mandate or prohibition. This case concerns whether Penal Code section 784.7 authorizes trial in violation of a defendant's constitutional right to a jury drawn from the vicinage. Section 784.7 provides that, with regard to the offenses specified in the statute, a defendant who is charged with having committed two or more offenses against the same victim in different counties may be tried on all of the charges in any county in which any of the offenses was committed. 04/17/00

This case concerns whether, and under what circumstances, the Sixth Amendment permits a defendant, who has counsel on the crimes with which he has been charged, to be interrogated in counsel's absence about related crimes with which defendant has not been charged and, if there is a constitutional violation, what the remedy is for such violation. 04/17/00

City of Loma Linda, S074261 (#98-170), which concerns the application of collateral estoppel principles in a court action under the Fair Employment & Housing Act when the employee failed to have adverse findings, made in a local administrative grievance procedure, set aside in a timely administrative mandamus proceeding. 04/10/00
