The Los Angeles office of SQUIRE, SANDERS & DEMPSEY has added three attorneys from the now-defunct BROBECK, PHLEGER & HARRISON.

Victor Sim joins the firm as of counsel. His practice focuses on business and technology in addition to financial transactions for venture capital funds. He earned his J.D. from Emory University School of Law in 1994.

Corporate associate Michael Chou is also joining the firm. He received his J.D. from UCLA School of Law in 1998.

Lilly Kim is also joining the firm as a corporate associate. She earned her law degree in 1998 from Loyola Law School.

JAMS has added former Santa Barbara District Attorney Stanley Roden as a mediator and arbitrator.

Roden, 61, previously served as a partner at HATCH & PARENT, specializing in complex civil litigation. In addition, he served two terms as Santa Barbara County D.A. from 1975 to 1983.

He earned his law degree from Hastings College of the Law in 1966.

Intellectual property attorney Robert Schroeder has joined BINGHAM MCCUTCHEN as a partner in the firm's Los Angeles office.

Previously Schroeder practiced at CHRISTIE, PARKER & HALE, a boutique IP firm. He earned his J.D. in 1967 from Cornell Law School.

ALSCHULER GROSSMAN STEIN & KAHAN attorney Anh Truong has been appointed by Los Angeles Mayor James Hahn to the city's Quality and Productivity Commission.

Truong, 28, is an associate at the firm, where he specializes in complex civil litigation. He served previously as a special assistant to then-City Attorney Hahn and as a consultant to the Los Angeles Charter Reform Commission.

He earned his law degree from Boalt Hall School of Law in 2000.

Craig Seligman has joined the Los Angeles office of KATTEN MUCHIN ZAVIS ROSENMAN as partner.

Seligman, 42, joins the firm from PAUL, HASTINGS, JANOFSKY & WALKER, where he practiced corporate law. His practice emphasizes private equity and other fund formation, fund management organization and the representation of fund and other institutional investors in direct and fund investments.

He earned his J.D. in 1990 from Southwestern University School of Law.

The Los Angeles office of JEFFER, MANGELS, BUTLER & MARMARO has moved to 1900 Avenue of the Stars, Seventh Floor.

MANATT, PHELPS & PHILLIPS, LLP announced today that William T. Quicksilver has been appointed Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Managing Partner. Mr. Quicksilver, a prominent corporate and finance partner and Co-Chair of the Firm's Business and Transactions Division, has been with Manatt for more than 25 years.

Mr. Quicksilver's practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, capital market activities, corporate governance, and strategic advisory services in the financial services industry and in a range of unregulated industries. Mr. Quicksilver regularly advises exchange-listed and private companies, investment banks, institutional investors and financial advisors.

Mr. Quicksilver earned a B.A. in 1974 from Princeton University and a J.D. in 1978 from the University of Chicago Law School. Named in the "Best Lawyers in America" list since 1999, Mr. Quicksilver also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Public Counsel, a prominent Los Angeles-based pro bono legal services organization.

DORSEY & WHITNEY LLP announced on February 19 that it has nearly tripled its Orange County office with the hire of 18 attorneys formerly with Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison LLP. The roster of new attorneys includes 7 partners who will continue their practices in the areas of litigation, labor and employment and business and technology. The attorneys will begin with Dorsey effective today.

The new partners are:

R. Patrick Arrington: Arrington practices business and technology corporate law, including public and private financings, mergers and acquisitions, venture capital transactions for emerging growth and technology companies. Arrington holds a Harvard Law degree.

John S. Baker: Baker has expertise in complex commercial litigation, including class actions, misappropriation of trade secrets, unfair competition and employment litigation. He has successfully represented clients in jury and bench trials involving large compensatory, consequential and punitive damage claims. Baker graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School.

Ellen S. Bancroft: Formerly the co-chairperson of Brobeck's Venture Capital Group, Bancroft's practice includes corporate and securities transactions, venture capital financing, private and public securities offerings, mergers and acquisitions, Securities and Exchange Commission regulations and general corporate counsel. Bancroft earned her law degree from Vanderbilt University.

David L. Hayes: Hayes' practice includes high-technology transactions, acquisition and protection of intellectual property, financing of high-tech companies, and domestic and international software licensing. Hayes graduated from Cornell Law School.

Kathlene W. Lowe: Lowe is a commercial, intellectual property and real property litigator. She has tried numerous cases in state and federal courts throughout the Western United States and argued appeals in state and federal courts of appeal and state supreme courts. Lowe is a graduate of the University of Utah College of Law.

Scott R. Santagata: Santagata focuses on corporate and securities law practice, representing primarily emerging growth and technology companies. He advises public and private companies in the areas of corporate governance, securities law compliance and general corporate matters. Santagata received his degree from the Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley.

Gabrielle M. Wirth: Wirth is an employment litigator with an emphasis on complex employment litigation and class actions. Her labor and employment counsel includes substantial arbitrations on wage and hour matters, unfair competition, protecting proprietary information and personnel matters. Wirth graduated from the University of California at Davis School of Law.

HOLLAND & KNIGHT LLP has announced that Los Angeles Partner John T. Rogers, Jr. has been appointed Chair of the Technology in the Practice Committee of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC), a national organization devoted to the promotion of excellence in the practice of trust and estate law. Rogers has served on the committee for the last eight years, and his three-year term as Chair is effective March 2003. The committee monitors developments and provides information to help Fellows of the College leverage technology in their trust and estate practices.

Rogers specializes in trust, estate, and conservatorship administration and litigation. He has represented both fiduciaries and beneficiaries in a variety of highly complex and often-disputed matters. Rogers is a member of the Los Angeles County Superior Court's Probate Mediation Panel and has acted as an expert witness or consultant in a number of cases. In addition, he has developed an expertise in environmental issues as they affect trusts and estates.

Rogers is certified by the State Bar of California Board of Legal pecialization as a specialist in estate planning, trust and probate law. He has been a Fellow of ACTEC since 1993 and, in addition to his new role, is a member of its Fiduciary Litigation and Professional Responsibility Committees. Rogers received his J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles (1981) and his B.S. from Stanford University (1978).

The law firm of ARTER & HADDEN LLP has named Steven L. Krongold as a partner in its Irvine office.

Krongold joined Arter & Hadden's Irvine office in January 2001 as a member of the firm's Litigation/Trial and Intellectual Property Groups. He specializes in patent, trademark and copyright litigation, trade secret misappropriation, e-commerce and Internet law. Krongold represents clients across a broad spectrum of industries, including medical device distributors, telecommunication providers, computer software developers, Website designers, and photographers. He received his Juris Doctorate from Loyola Law School and his B.A. in Economics from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Retired Orange County Superior Court Judge David Brickner has become an arbitrator and mediator at JAMS.

Brickner, 63, has more than 31 years experience as a jurist and trial attorney. He was elected to Orange County Superior Court in 1986 and served until 2003. He was appointed in 1983 by Gov. Jerry Brown to serve as West Orange Municipal Court judge and served on assignment to the court of appeals in 1984.

He earned his J.D. from UCLA School of Law in 1968.

The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences Inc. has named PROSKAUER ROSE partner Charles Ortner national legal counsel.

Ortner represents many recording artists, including Madonna and Shania Twain. In addition, he represents music companies Universal, Bertelsmann and EMI.

He earned his law degree from Brooklyn Law School in 1971.

SHEPPARD, MULLIN, RICHTER & HAMPTON has added new partners Robert Darwell, Benjamin Mulcahy and Shaun Clark to its entertainment, media and communications team based in West Los Angeles.

Darwell, who will head the entertainment transactional team, received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1988.

Mulcahy received his J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1994.

Clark earned his J.D. from Loyola Law School of Los Angeles in 1996.

GARRETT DEFRENZA STIEPEL LLP, a real estate and business law firm, has added four new attorneys from Pinto & Dubia, LLP in Irvine.

Kenneth Ryder represents institutional lenders, residential and commercial developers. Mr. Ryder specializes in construction and permanent lending, office, commercial and industrial leasing, acquisitions and sales, toxic and environmental matters, loan restructures and workouts.

Tracy Johnson specializes in sales and acquisitions, debt and equity financing for residential and commercial development projects, commercial construction and permanent financing, restructuring, joint ventures, commercial leasing, sale-leaseback and property management agreements.

Christopher Lund focuses on real estate transactions, including acquisitions and dispositions, commercial and residential development, financing, construction and commercial leasing.

Matthew Currie specializes in construction and permanent financing, sales and acquisitions, commercial and residential development, leasing and title matters.

KRING & CHUNG, LLP, has announced the addition of Kathleen Elder-Blakely, Esq. as a partner of the firm. Ms. Elder-Blakely joins Kring & Chung from her private practice to head the firm's family law department.

Prior to joining Kring & Chung, Ms. Elder-Blakely managed her own private law practice out of Chino, CA. Ms. Elder-Blakely's practice focused on serving the family, bankruptcy and criminal law needs of the Inland Empire. She will continue to serve clients in the Inland Empire area as well as manage the firm's family law practice groups in the Irvine, Ontario and San Diego offices. Ms. Elder-Blakely's family law practice includes the handling of marital dissolutions, community property divisions, quasi-community property distributions, child support, spousal support, paternity, modification hearings, adoptions and pre-nuptial agreements.

HOGAN & HARTSON has announced that Theodore J. Roper has joined the firm's downtown Los Angeles office as partner practicing in its Corporate, Securities and Finance Group.

Roper's practice focuses on domestic and international corporate transactional law with a special emphasis on Japanese corporate legal matters. Having served as general counsel to several Japanese corporations, Ted brings a considerable background in assisting Japanese corporations on a wide range of legal issues including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic alliances, real estate, immigration, and labor law.

Fluent in Japanese, Roper has published several articles in both English and Japanese publications, and is a regular participant and speaker at various legal and business seminars. He is also active in many professional and business organizations, including the Japan Business Association. He received his J.D. from Golden Gate University and both his master's and bachelor's from San Jose State University in California.

The JENKENS & GILCHRIST Board of Directors recently announced the promotion of several attorneys to shareholder positions in the firm, including Rebecca Winthrop of the firm's Pasadena office as an income shareholder.

Ms. Winthrop specializes in counseling and representing banks and other financial institutions in large and complex Chapter 11 cases, including negotiating, documenting and obtaining court approval of debtor in possession financing and cash collateral stipulations, negotiating appropriate treatment of claims in consensual and non-consensual plans of reorganization, obtaining relief from stay and defending against charging liens. In addition, Ms. Winthrop has substantial experience advising and representing indenture trustees and bondholders in workouts and bankruptcies involving high-yield securities, as well as representing bankruptcy trustees and unsecured creditors in large Chapter 11 cases, and equipment lessors in exercising state court remedies. Ms. Winthrop is personally rated AAV by Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory.

Ms. Winthrop earned her B.A. from the University of Southern California (magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, 1981) and her J.D. from Loyola Law School (1984)

FISH & RICHARDSON has recruited Alan H. Blankenheimer, a 20-year patent and antitrust litigator. Blankenheimer, who had been a partner at Brown & Bain in Phoenix, Arizona since 1983, will keep his primary office in San Diego, but will divide his time between the firm's San Diego and Silicon Valley offices.

Blankenheimer, who is joining Fish & Richardson as a principal, is bringing a group of four litigators with him: one principal and three associates. They are principal Laura E. Underwood and associates Roger A. Denning, Jo Dale Carothers, Ph.D., and Nathan R. Hamler. All four attorneys were also previously with Brown & Bain.

Blankenheimer's national client base includes Maxim Integrated Products, Inc.; Integrated Circuit Systems, Inc.; and Dell Computer. He has successfully litigated patent cases in federal courts across the country, and has deep experience in the Northern District of California, a key forum for patent cases. He also counsels clients nationally on a wide variety of antitrust issues.

Blankenheimer earned his law degree from the University of Chicago, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and Articles Editor for the University of Chicago Law Review. He earned his undergraduate degree from Wesleyan University. He clerked for Judge Irving L. Goldberg of the United States Court of Appeal for the Fifth Circuit following law school. Blankenheimer has been selected as one of the Best Lawyers in America since 1997.

THE PROSKAUER ROSE LLP law firm has announced that its partner, Charles B. Ortner, was recently named National Legal Counsel by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, Inc. (the "Recording Academy"), the Grammy Award organization.

Ortner represents many recording artists, including superstars Madonna and Shania Twain. He also represents many of the world's leading music

companies such as Universal, Bertelsmann and EMI in addition to top record labels including Arista, Interscope, Island Def Jam, Jive and RCA.

MANATT, PHELPS & PHILLIPS, LLP announced on January 16 that Ellen R. Marshall has joined the Firm's Orange County office. Ms. Marshall, a former partner at Morrison & Foerster's Irvine office, is a Partner in Manatt's Business and Transactions Division.

Ms. Marshall has broad experience in mergers and acquisitions, public offerings and private placements, and business restructuring. During the 1980s, she represented savings institutions in conversions from mutual to stock form and in mortgage-backed financings. Recently, she has focused on the securitization of assets and complex structured finance in the international arena. Ms. Marshall also has developed a thriving pension fund investment, trust and ERISA compliance practice. Her clients include Fannie Mae, Washington Mutual, California Bankers Association, Bank of America Corp., Union Bank of California, Option One Mortgage, and New Century Financial.

Ms. Marshall earned her J.D. in 1974 from Harvard Law School, where she graduated cum laude after being granted an A.B. from Yale College magna cum laude in 1971 as a member of the first Yale undergraduate class to include women. She has practiced banking, corporate and finance law in Los Angeles and Orange County since 1975, first as an associate and partner at McKenna, Conner & Cuneo, and then as a partner at Morrison & Foerster since 1988. Ms. Marshall is active in the Orange County community, serving as a Trustee of the Orange County Museum of Art since 1992 and of Arts Orange County since 1999. She is admitted to State Bars of California, New York and the District of Columbia, and is a member of the American Bar Association and the Orange County Bar Association.

MUNGER, TOLLES & OLSON LLP announced that it has selected Greg Morgan to serve as Co-Managing Partner for the firm, effective January 1, 2003. He will serve with Robert Johnson and succeeds Ruth Fisher, who is completing the term she has served since 1999.

Morgan, who joined the firm in 1981, is a corporate transactional partner, practicing in the area of securities law and mergers and acquisitions. Prior to joining the firm, he clerked for Justice Lewis F. Powell on the U.S. Supreme Court. In addition to practicing, Mr. Morgan has taught law at the UCLA Law School and USC Law Center. He is a director of The FINOVA Group, Inc., a public corporation, and a trustee of New Roads School in Santa Monica, California.

Morgan will serve with Bob Johnson, the firm's senior tax partner. Johnson has served as Co-Managing Partner since 1999. Johnson is the former Chair of the Taxation Sections of both theLos Angeles County Bar Association and State Bar of California and is a past member of the Board of Trustees of the Los Angeles County Bar Association. He is the recipient of numerous awards for his outstanding contributions to the California tax bar.

HOGAN & HARTSON announced that Ying Chen and Julie Ann Shepard of the firm's Los Angeles office have been elevated to partnership effective January 1, 2003:

Ying Chen is a member of the firm's Intellectual Property Group. Her practice includes counseling clients on issues of patent validity, patent infringement, and providing support for patent prosecution. Dr. Chen has a Ph.D. in biophysics/biochemistry from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York and received her J.D. from Northwestern School of Law of Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon.

Julie Ann Shepard, a member of the firm's Litigation Group, has a broad-based commercial, entertainment and intellectual property litigation practice. Ms. Shepard received her J.D. in 1994 from McGeorge School of Law.

NOSSAMAN GUTHNER KNOX & ELLIOTT has added David Graeler as an associate in Los Angeles.

His practice will focus on eminent domain and inverse condemnation matters. He joins Nossaman from the Los Angeles office of SABAITIS O'CALLAGHAN.

Graeler received his J.D. from Loyola Law School. He also worked as an associate with GILBERT, KELLY, CROWLEY & JENNETT in Los Angeles.

Colin Murray has joined GORDON & REES in San Diego as a partner and member of the firm's business and technology group.

Before joining the firm, Murray served as a senior associate for two years in BAKER & MCKENZIE's litigation practice group. He also worked as a prosecutor for the San Diego County district attorney's office.

He earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C., in 1991.

MAYER, BROWN ROWE & MAW has added 30 new partners and 11 new counsel, with two of those in Los Angeles.

The Chicago-based firm has added to its L.A. practice Susan Booth, who earned her J.D. from the UCLA School of Law in 1991; and Allen Erenbaum, who earned his law degree from Harvard Law School in 1987.

O'MELVENY & MYERS has elevated five attorneys.

Carol Johnston and Robert Welsh practice in the firm's Century City office. Johnston, a trusts and estates attorney, has been with the firm since 1986. She earned her J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School in 1979.

Welsh's practice consists of intellectual property disputes, entertainment litigation and licensing disputes. He earned his law degree in 1987 from UCLA School of Law.

Carolyn Kubota, Thomas Riordan and Paul Salvaty have made partner in the Los Angeles office.

Kubota is a member of the white-collar crime and regulatory defense group. Previously, she served as an assistant U.S. attorney in Los Angeles. She earned her law degree from Cornell Law School in 1982.

A member of the litigation department, Riordan has been involved in business and constitutional litigation for a number of the firm's corporate and government clients. He earned his J.D. from Loyola Law School in 1994.

Salvaty focuses on complex commercial litigation and media law. He earned his law degree in 1993 from Hastings College of the Law.

In addition, the firm elevated eight other attorneys in its Washington D.C., New York, Hong Kong and Shanghai offices.

HAIGHT BROWN & BONESTEEL has announced the elevation of senior associate Nancy E. Lucas to partner.

Located in the firm's Los Angeles office, Lucas, 42, is a member of the product liability and tort litigation, the commercial litigation and intellectual property, and the professional liability practice groups where she focuses on the defense of legal malpractice and product liability claims. She has extensive experience in commercial litigation, including cases involving breach of contract, unfair business practices and product infringement. Lucas also has experience trying cases for clients in matters involving RICO claims, insurance fraud, unfair competition and contract disputes.

Lucas earned her J.D. from Pepperdine University (1986) and her B.A. from the University of Kentucky (1982).

BROBECK, PHLEGER & HARRISON senior counsel Sean Prosser jumped to the San Diego office of FISH & RICHARDSON Dec. 31.

A securities litigator in Brobeck's San Diego office, Prosser had joined the firm as an associate in 1997 before becoming senior counsel last year. Prior to joining Brobeck he was an associate at Santa Monica's Gilchrist & Rutter for three years and served with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, first as an intern and then as a staff attorney, from 1991 to 1994.

MURCHISON & CUMMING has elevated Corine Zygelman and Jefferson Smith to partner.

Zygelman, 37, joined the firm's Los Angeles office 14 years ago as a paralegal. She attended law school at night while working at the firm full time, earning her J.D. in 1995 from University of LaVerne College of Law.

A member of the San Diego office, Smith, 38, focuses on medical malpractice, product and general liability and commercial litigation. He earned his law degree from University of San Diego School of Law in 1991.

LUCE, FORWARD, HAMILTON & SCRIPPS has added partner Nicola Pisano to its Carmel Valley-San Diego office.

Formerly an intellectual property partner in the Palo Alto office of FISH & NEAVE, Pisano focuses on IP litigation, counseling and prosecution. He earned his law degree from Notre Dame Law School in 1989.

ALSCHULER GROSSMAN STEIN & KAHAN has added two partners to expand the firm's insurance, reinsurance and insolvency practice groups.

Barry Leigh Weissman and Henry S. David were formerly with Squire, Sanders & Dempsey.

Weissman received his J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1973. He has extensive experience in insurance and reinsurance matters, and has a widespread global practice.

David practices in the arena of bankruptcy, creditors' rights and insurance insolvency.

LUCE, FORWARD, HAMILTON & SCRIPPS has elevated seven of its attorneys to partner.

P. Blake Allen, 38, practices corporate law in the firm's San Diego office. He earned his J.D. from University of Oklahoma School of Law in 1990.

A member of Luce, Forward's insurance bad faith group, Nathan Arrington, 44, works in the San Diego office. He earned his J.D. in 1986 from Harvard Law School.

Christopher Findley, 33, is a member of the firm's real estate litigation group in San Diego. He earned his law degree from Cornell Law School in 1994.

A member of the business/litigation group, Russell Gold, 42, works out of San Diego. He earned his J.D. from University of San Diego School of Law in 1995.

Michael Ramsey, 41, is a member of the firm's real estate group in San Diego. He earned his J.D. in 1990 from Pepperdine University School of Law.

Working out of the firm's Carmel Valley/Del Mar office, Stuart Sorenson, is a member of the firm's business practice group. He earned his law degree from University of Minnesota Law School in 1996.

Phillip Sullivan is a member of the firm's trust and estates group in San Diego. He received his L.L.M. from New York University in 1995 and his J.D. from Villanova University School of Law in 1988.

HOGAN & HARTSON announced today that Neil R. O'Hanlon has been named as Managing Partner of the Century City office in Los Angeles.

A member of the firm's Litigation Group, Mr. O'Hanlon represents clients including mortgage lenders, motion picture studios and investment bankers.

Mr. O'Hanlon is also a volunteer with the American Heart Association and has served as the chairman of it Western States Affiliate (California, Nevada and Utah). He received his A.B. from Columbia College in 1972 and his J.D. from Columbia University School of Law in 1975, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar.

QUINN EMANUEL URQUHART OLIVER & HEDGES has lured Sanford Litvack, a trial lawyer and former vice chairman of Walt Disney Co., from Dewey Ballantine.

PUBLIC COUNSEL, a public interest pro bono law firm, recently honored O'MELVENY & MYERS associate Kenneth Firtel as Homelessness Prevention Law Project Advocate of the Year.

Firtel was honored for his work on behalf of homeless people in need of legal services.

"The tragedy of homelessness can often be remedied once legal barriers or personal misdemeanor records are either cleared or dealt with," said Firtel, who works in O'Melveny & Myers' Century City office.

SHEPPARD, MULLIN, RICHTER & HAMPTON has added David Garcia as a partner in its Los Angeles office.

Garcia, 48, joins the firm from O'MELVENY & MYERS, where he practiced since 1990. He is joining Sheppard, Mullin's antitrust and trade regulations practice group.

"With a roster that includes the 2002 Antitrust Lawyer of the Year, a former senior trial attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice antitrust division and a thriving antitrust practice for top-tier companies in leading business segments, I am joining a first-rate team," Garcia said.

Garcia is a member of the California, New York, Washington, D.C., and Florida bars. He earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1979.

Robert Dudnik has been named of counsel to MITCHELL SILBERBERG & KNUPP LLP in its litigation practice. Mr. Dudnik previously was a partner in the litigation department of Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP in Los Angeles, where he co-chaired the firm's entertainment practice group.

Mr. Dudnik has practiced extensively in litigation involving entertainment industry business disputes, including intellectual property matters such as claims of copyright infringement, rights of publicity, unfair competition and implied contract.

Mr. Dudnik received his bachelor's degree from Cornell University and his law degree from Yale Law School, cum laude, graduating second in his class. Bruce Brusavich, name partner with AGNEW & BRUSAVICH, has become the 2003 president of the Consumer Attorneys of California.

Brusavich, 47, is a personal injury trial lawyer in Torrance. He earned his J.D. from Southwestern University School of Law in 1980.

FOLEY & LARDNER has added Stephen McFeely as a partner in its litigation department in Los Angeles.

HAIGHT BROWN & BONESTEEL has announced that Senior Associate J. Alan Warfield has received the Public Counsel's "Advocate of the Year" award for the organization's Consumer Law Project. Public Counsel is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting the members of the community who live at or below the poverty level. Warfield was among the honorees recognized for their commitment to helping the less fortunate members of the community in a Nov. 21 ceremony.

A senior associate in the firm's Appellate Practice Group, Warfield works extensively on trial-level litigation matters. Prior to joining Allen Matkins, Corbett was counsel with Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw in Los Angeles, where his practice focused on large real estate transactions including acquisitions and dispositions, leases, financing, and joint ventures for development. His clients include major institutional investors and some of the largest landlords of commercial real estate in California. THE CALIFORNIA MINORITY COUNSEL PROGRAM (CMCP) has been named the recipient of the California State Bar's 2002 Diversity Award for a Bar Association. Jointly received by CMCP and California Women Lawyers, the award was presented at the State Bar's annual meeting in Monterey, Calif.

The State Bar of California Diversity Awards were established in 2001 by the Board of Governors to recognize outstanding efforts and contributions in promoting diversity in the legal profession. The awards support the State Bar's commitment to diversity, focusing on discouraging discrimination, as well as increasing public confidence in the integrity of the profession.

The Los Angeles office of LORD, BISSELL & BROOK, a member firm and active participant of CMCP, also has been recognized for its leadership in diversity efforts with the bestowment of the Minority Corporate Counsel Association's Thomas L. Sager Award.

Anderson, 40, who joins Oppenheimer as a senior associate, was previously an associate with the La Jolla office of HELLER EHRMAN WHITE & MCAULIFFE.

DAVIS WRIGHT TREMAINE has added three attorneys to its health care practice in Los Angeles.

Previously a partner with the Los Angeles law firm of AKIN GUMP STRAUSS HAUER & FELD, John Krave represents hospitals, health systems, medical groups and other health care businesses in a variety of legal and business transactions. He earned his J.D. from Los Angeles' Loyola Law School in 1980.

Krave brings two other attorneys over with him from Akin Gump. Pamela Gross' practice there focused on transactional and regulatory health care matters. She earned her law degree from UCLA School of Law in 1992.

Michael Bradbury, the longtime district attorney of Ventura County, has joined the law firm of WESTON, BENSHOOF, ROCHEFORT, RUBALCAVA & MACCUISH as a partner in its Westlake Village office.

Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton has been named 2002 Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year by the San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program.

This is the fifth time since 1989 that Sheppard, Mullin has received the award. The firm also received the 2002 San Diego County Bar Association Law Firm Public Service Award and the 2002 Legal Aid Society of San Diego Outstanding Service Award.

Robert Gerber, who in addition to chairing the firm's pro bono committee, is a partner in the IP practice group in San Diego, received the Co-President's Award in 2001 from the Tom Homann Law Association in San Diego. The award was based upon his successful representation of a Mexican immigrant seeking asylum in the United States, which resulted in a landmark opinion by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Joseph Petrillo, partner in the real estate, land use, natural resources and environment practice group in San Francisco, was recently honored by the Treasure Island Homeless Development Initiative for pro bono work related to the establishment of new housing for low-income individuals and the homeless in the Bay Area.

Gregory Long, partner in the business trial practice group in Los Angeles, was honored by the American Civil Liberties Union for his work in defending an individual in a case that went to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Andrew Guilford, past president of the State Bar of California and partner in the business trial practice group in Orange County, was recently honored by the Anti-Defamation League for his contributions to improving indigent access to the legal system.

Ian Ballon, an Internet and e-commerce lawyer at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, has been appointed adviser to the International Intellectual Property Project of the American Law Institute. The project will focus on the legal rules concerning international enforcement of intellectual property rights and will develop principles to govern jurisdiction and the recognition and enforcement of judgments in international intellectual-property disputes.

American Law Institute is the academic organization responsible for developing and publishing legal treatises known as Restatements of the Law and, in collaboration with the National Conference of Uniform State Laws, the Uniform Commercial Code and other Model Codes. Its members include judges, lawyers and law professors from across the United States and some foreign countries. Founders include Chief Justice and President William Howard Taft. Judges Benjamin Cardozo and Learned Hand were early leaders.

Anne LaWer, 33, joins the firm's San Francisco office after spending the past three years with Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. Her practice focuses on employee benefits and corporate and securities law. She earned her J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law in 1994.

Former Lyon & Lyon Partner Arnold Sklar has joined the Los Angeles office of Ropers Majeski Kohn & Bentley as of counsel. With 30 years of legal experience, Sklar will offer an array of expertise to the firm's clients in the areas of intellectual property, including licensing, copyright, and trademark matters, commercial transactions and business law matters, trade regulation, and franchise litigation.

Sklar received his J.D. from the University of Southern California (1971) and earned his B.A. in History from the University of California at Los Angeles (1968). He was a member of the California State Bar Franchise Law Committee and served as its Vice-Chair from 1993 - 1994.

Rutan & Tucker has added four associates to its attorney roster this month.

Matt Grimshaw comes to the firm following a two-year clerkship with the Hon. John E. Ryan of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Central District of California. Grimshaw graduated cum laude from the Willamette University College of Law in Salem, Ore., in 2000. He has joined Rutan & Tucker’s Trial Department.

Also joining the firm are three Class of 2002 law school graduates: Kim Riker, from Georgetown University Law Center, and Jesse Hastings and Rachel Schumacher from the University of California Hastings College of the Law.

PERKINS COIE has hired employment and business litigation attorneys William Kannow and James DeRoche from CROSBY, HEAFEY, ROACH & MAY.

Kannow, joining as a partner, had been a partner with Crosby, Heafey since 1990. He is a 1976 graduate of Loyola University Law School.

DeRoche, who is of counsel, earned his law degree in 1975 from University of the Pacific Law School.

Jeffrey Abrams, former in-house counsel at Universal Music, Broadband Sports and Global Icons, and former entertainment litigator at Katten Muchin & Zavis and Rosenfeld Meyer & Susman, has established his own mediation practice, with specialized expertise in entertainment and intllectual property-related disputes.

Herschel Elkins, senior assistant attorney general of the consumer law section of the California attorney general's office, has been named 2002 Public Lawyer of the Year by the State Bar of California. "Without Herschel Elkins, California consumer law would not be recognized as the gold standard among states as it is today," said Attorney General Bill Lockyer. Elkins has headed the consumer law section since its founding in 1965. He has devoted his entire 45-year career to the improvement of consumer protection in California and his name appears in more than 120 appellate cases regarding consumer protection. Elkins earned his law degree from UCLA School of Law.

Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP announced on Sept. 16 that Tim Paone, Susan K. Hori and Roger A. Grable have joined Manatt's Real Estate and Land Use Practice in the firm's Orange County office. All three attorneys have extensive expertise in real estate entitlement and development, environmental and government relations matters.

Mr. Paone, a former senior executive at The Irvine Company, and Ms. Hori, most recently a shareholder at Buchalter, Nemer, Fields & Younger in Newport Beach, join Manatt as partners. Mr. Grable, who also joins from Buchalter, will become a counsel at Manatt.

A 1972 graduate of the University of California at Santa Barbara, Mr. Paone earned his J.D. at the University of Southern California in 1975. He has been involved in a variety of industry, community and political organizations, serving appointed terms on the California Law Revision Commission and the Huntington Beach Planning Commission. Mr. Paone is currently on the Board of Directors of the Orange County Chapter of the Building Industry Association, Home Aid Orange County and Orange County Forum.

Ms. Hori received a B.A. from the University of Washington and graduated in 1979 from the University of California at Berkeley's Boalt Hall School of Law. Her practice emphasizes obtaining land use entitlements for real estate developers and resolving environmental issues involving local, state and federal permitting and regulatory considerations. She has considerable experience with coastal resource issues, including wetlands, environmentally sensitive resources and coastal zone regulation.

A graduate of Brigham Young University, Mr. Grable earned a J.D. in 1970 from Hastings College of the Law at the University of California. his practice emphasizes entitlement, including development and environmental issues, and he has substantial real estate transactional expertise. As part of his practice, Mr. Grable has served as a contract City Attorney to the cities of Irvine, La Palma, San Clemente and Laguna Beach. He has particular experience in negotiating development agreements and with subdivision and school mitigation matters.

JAMS alternative dispute resolution provider has added June Lehrman to its panel of resolution experts in Southern California.

"June is renowned for her innovative and extraordinarily effective approach to resolving complex, multi-party disputes," said Lawrence Gennaro, JAMS' southwest regional vice president.

Lehrman, 43, brings more than a decade of experience arbitrating and mediating disputes in a variety of cases, including areas of complex contract, business tort, employment and health care. She earned her J.D. from University of Michigan Law School in 1985.

GREENBERG TRAURIG LLP has announced that veteran entertainment attorney Ira S. Epstein has joined the firm's entertainment practice in Los Angeles.

Epstein has four decades of experience representing major television and motion picture industry clients, production companies and talent as well as legitimate stage actors and producers.

Epstein obtained his J.D. from the University of Nebraska College of Law and was a Captain in the Judge Advocate General Air Force in his early career.

Greenberg Traurig LLP also announced that Vibiana Molina, formerly a vice president of TNT Originals, Inc., has joined as a member of its entertainment practice in Los Angeles.

Prior to joining TNT, Molina was an associate in Manatt, Phelps & Phillips' music department. There, she honed her skills in negotiating and drafting a wide variety of music industry agreements. She also worked on copyright, trademark and other intellectual property matters.

Molina obtained her J.D. from Columbia Law School where she was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and a member of Columbia Human Rights Law Review. She earned a bachelor's degree from University of California at Los Angeles.

MANATT, PHELPS & PHILLIPS, LLP announced on August 28 that Blase P. Dillingham, a former partner in Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe and Chair of the Los Angeles section of its Corporate and Technology Group, has joined Manatt's Los Angeles office as a Partner in the Firm's Business and Transactions Division. Mr. Dillingham represents major domestic and international corporations in a broad range of business transactions.

A 1968 graduate of Stanford University, Mr. Dillingham earned an M.A. from Vanderbilt University in 1973 and a J.D. in 1976 from the University of Southern California Law Center, where he was a law review member.

Mr. Dillingham is a member of the Executive Committee of the Business and Corporations Law Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association and of the corporate, international and antitrust sections of the American Bar Association and the State Bar of California. He has also served on the boards of directors of charitable corporations, including the Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation of the University of California, Los Angeles.

HOLLAND & KNIGHT LLP has announced the addition of former Lyon & Lyon partners Robert E. Lyon and Richard E. Lyon, Jr. to the firm as Of Counsel and Partner, respectively. The Lyons significantly enhance Holland & Knight's intellectual property practice in the West.

Robert Lyon has considerable IP litigation experience in patent, trademark and copyright infringement, and trade secret disputes, including the protection and litigation of computer software matters. He also has extensive prosecution, litigation and management experience with large international corporate trademark portfolios. He has represented musicians and small businesses in copyright disputes and has helped many individuals protect and license their merchandising rights, trademark and celebrity rights.

KRING & CHUNG LLP has announced the promotion of Ross E. Shanberg to partner in the firm's Irvine headquarters. Mr. Shanberg's practice includes general business and employment litigation, with an emphasis on the handling of claims for wrongful termination, breach of contract, harassment and discrimination.

Mr. Shanberg joined Kring & Chung in 1999 from the litigation firm of Baker, Silberberg & Keener. He received his BS in Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley, and his JD from the California Western School of Law.

O'MELVENY & MYERS LLP announced that effective September 1 the firm will be joined by five distinguished patent attorneys with extraordinary academic backgrounds in the physical, chemical and biological sciences. They are:

David Murphy, who specializes in patent portfolio management and prosecution, intellectual property counseling and licensing, technology transactions and patent adversarial proceedings including federal court litigation and I.T.C. Section 337 investigations.

Dr. John Kappos, whose expertise in life sciences and medical technology includes assisting biomedical device, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology clients in patent prosecution, portfolio development, licensing and litigation. He received his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Harvard.

Dr. Diane Wong, a patent prosecutor who specializes in medical devices, biotechnology and chemistry. Dr. Wong obtained her Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from UC San Francisco.

MILBANK, TWEED, HADLEY & MCCLOY LLP announced today that Edwin Feo has been elected as one of three members of Milbank’s Executive Committee, responsible for global management of the law firm. Kenneth J. Baronsky, head of the firm’s Los Angeles Corporate Group, has been named Managing Partner of the Los Angeles office, succeeding Mr. Feo in that role.

Mr. Baronsky has an in-depth background in a wide variety of corporate transactional work, including M&A transactions, leveraged buyouts, acquisition and high yield financings and restructurings. Mr. Feo, who also co-chairs Milbank’s Global Utility and Energy Group, was Managing Partner of the Los Angeles office for six and one half years before joining the Executive Committee.

Arlyn Alonzo has joined MCDERMOTT, WILL & EMERY as a partner in the intellectual property department. Alonzo formerly served as chief intellectual property counsel at Alsius Corp., an Irvine-based medical device company. Alonzo counsels clients on identifying patentable technologies and prepares and prosecutes patent and trademark applications. She has prepared patent infringement and invalidity analyses, and has drafted motions in various litigation cases. She also worked as a project engineer for nearly 10 years at the Hughes Space & Communications Co. She earned her J.D. from Loyola Law School of Los Angeles in 1996.

IP litigator Joel Voelzke has left HOWREY SIMON ARNOLD & WHITE to rejoin OPPENHEIMER WOLFF & DONNELLY'S Los Angeles office as a partner

Voelzke, 41, had previously been an associate with Oppenheimer (and its predecessor firm in Los Angeles, Poms, Smith, Lande & Rose) from 1995 to May 2000. He was an associate with Howrey Simon for two years beginning in May 2000.

Voelzke is the third addition to Oppenheimer's Los Angeles intellectual property team since July 1, when patent prosecution associates Sam Simpson and Vanessa Owen came on board.

Voelzke received his law degree from the University of Southern California in 1995.

Evan Chuck has joined KATTEN MUCHIN ZAVIS ROSENMAN as a partner in the firm's Palo Alto and L.A. offices.

Chuck, 33, was formerly with WHITE & CASE. He received his J.D. from the George Washington University Law School.

Joining both offices as associate is Nicole Janigian, who was also formerly at White & Case. Janigian earned her law degree from Loyola Law School in 1998. She is a delegate to the Los Angeles County Bar Association's Conference of Delegates to the State Bar.

Lisa Martens joined FISH & RICHARDSON as a partner in the firm’s San Diego office. Martens’ practice emphasizes trademark prosecution and litigation for the biotechnology, telecommunications, computer hardware, software, semiconductor, Internet and retail clothing industries. Martens earned her J.D. from DePaul University College of the Law.

Elise Tenen-Aoki has joined the Los Angeles office of GREENBERG TRAURIG LLP as a member of its rapidly expanding intellectual property practice. Tenen-Aoki brings extensive experience in a broad range of trademark and copyright matters on a national and global level.

Tenen-Aoki obtained her bachelor's degree cum laude from Tufts University and her J.D. from American University School of Law. She is licensed to practice in California, District of Columbia and Maryland and is a member of the International Trademark Association.

RUTAN & TUCKER LLP has added Ron Oines as a partner in the firm. Mr. Oines has a broad litigation and intellectual property practice, including in the areas of patent, trade secret, trademark, copyright, right of publicity, unfair competition, defamation, real estate, insurance coverage, contract and warranty disputes, and class actions, among others.

Mr. Oines received his J.D. cum laude from Arizona State University College of Law in 1989, where he was an editor of the Law Journal and an extern to Judge Stephen Reinhardt of the U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit.
