Michele Haas, a partner with Hoagland Longo Moran Dunst & Doukas in New Brunswick, was elected president of the New Jersey Defense Association during its annual convention June 27-30 at Skytop Lodge in Canadensis, Pa. Essex County Lawyers Go To Bat for Legal Aid

The Essex County Bar Foundation's Young Lawyers Section held its annual fundraiser on July 16 to benefit the Essex County Legal Aid Association. The YLS hosted members and guests at a BBQ while taking in a game between the N.J. Jackals and the Newark Bears on July 16 at Yogi Bera Stadium in Upper Montclair.

Sills Cummis Awards Walsh Scholarship

Sills Cummis & Gross in Newark has selected Alexandra Larkin, a first-year student at Rutgers Law School-Newark, as its 2013 Charles J. Walsh Scholar. The scholarship fund was established in memory of Walsh, a member of the firm for 17 years before he became a Bergen County Superior Court judge. Larkin was chosen for her academic promise and leadership qualities. The fund provides a scholarship, summer internship stipends, mentorship and career guidance.

VLJ Names Budesheim Volunteer of the Month


Volunteer Lawyers for Justice of Newark has named Adam Budesheim, shown, an associate with McCarter & English in Newark, as its volunteer attorney for August. Budesheim has worked on VLJ's Disaster Legal Response Program, which provides pro bono assistance to New Jersey residents with legal problems from Hurricane Sandy. Budesheim has volunteered at four clinics in Hoboken and took on a client for pro bono full representation.
