Paced by transactions that brought in more than $5 billion, the value of worldwide mergers and acquisitions increased 73 percent in first half of 2014, compared to the same period of 2013, the strongest first-half percent gain since 1998, according to Thomson Reuters. The total value of announced deals was $1.8 trillion. There were 18,300 deals a slight increase from the first six months of last year.
