• Shearman & Sterling has added Lawrence Hill as a partner in the tax group. Hill joins the firm from Dewey & LeBoeuf, where he was chair of the tax controversy and litigation practice and also served on the executive committee

• Kaye Scholer has hired two transactional attorneys who were partners at Dewey & LeBoeuf: Christopher Peterson joins as a corporate partner and George Williams Jr. joins as a finance special counsel.

• Phillips Nizer has added Zdzislaw Wieckowski as a partner in the corporate and business law, securities and private placement, and international practices. He was a partner at Bird & Bird in Warsaw, Poland.

• Tai-Heng Cheng has joined Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan as a partner in the international arbitration practice. Cheng, a specialist in international law and international arbitration, was a tenured professor of law at New York Law School and co-director of its Institute for Global Law, Justice and Policy.

• Manatt, Phelps & Phillips has added Jay Martin as a partner in the insurance regulatory practice in Albany. He was of counsel at Dewey & LeBoeuf.

• Jonathan Melmed has joined Morrison & Foerster as a partner who will head the firm’s private equity practice in New York. He was a partner with Chadbourne & Parke and head of that firm’s Canada practice.

• Theodore H. Katz, a recently retired Southern District magistrate judge, has joined mediation and arbitration services provider JAMS.

• Jon Dorf, founder and managing partner of Dorf & Nelson in Rye, has received Legal Services of the Hudson Valley‘s Equal Access to Justice Award.
