SurveyMonkey Inc. helps users create and distribute online surveys and then analyzes and interprets the results. The company was founded in 1999 and is headquartered in Palo Alto. It has 455 employees and offices in Portland, Seattle, Dublin, Luxembourg and Ottawa. In 2013, SurveyMonkey had more than 14 million users of its free services and 360,000 paid customers. The company also owns SurveyMonkey Audience, which matches volunteers with business surveys; Wufoo, an online form builder; and in August bought Canadian rival FluidWare.

LEGAL TEAM

When general counsel Eleanor Lacey joined SurveyMonkey in 2012, it had a two-person legal team. Today, she oversees four attorneys, one fixed-term attorney and a second-year Stanford Law School student intern. In January, she hired Masha Polyakov, a former Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom senior associate who worked closely with her on with SurveyMonkey’s $800 million recapitalization in 2013.
