A set of proposed federal rule changes meant to streamline discovery also could have a significant effect on New York's state courts if they are passed, according to New York attorneys.

The Advisory Committee on Civil Rules voted in April to recommend the rules, which would attempt to bring the scope of discovery in line with the amount at stake in litigation, to the Standing Committee on Rules of Practice and Procedure. The standing committee voted in early June to publish them for a six-month public comment period, which will likely begin this summer.
