Players Win Relief From Stanford Receiver's Clawback Attempt

A group of current and former professional baseball players recently won a big victory in a courtroom instead of on the ball field. Because of a 5th Circuit ruling, the seven ballplayers and about 500 other investors will be able to keep money they earned on CDs they purchased from Stanford International Bank. The insolvency administrator for a German aviation company sued Mayer Brown in state district court in Houston on May 27, alleging the firm was grossly negligent when it failed to properly file some financing documents related to an $8 million loan the company purchased from a bank. Former U.S. Attorney Named Receiver in Millennium Bank Case

Richard Roper, former U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Texas and now a partner in Dallas' Thompson & Knight, on March 26 was appointed the receiver in Securities and Exchange Commission v. Millennium Bank, et al. As receiver, he'll take control of the assets and records of Millennium Bank and the other defendants.
