Texas' largest firms promoted 20 percent fewer partners for 2008: 112 compared to 140 promoted by the same firms for 2007. The election of fewer partners at the large firms is driven by the firms' uncertainty about the economy, says one recruiter, pointing to less growth and less business expansion at Texas' firms during the past year. Jason Bennett of Baker Botts is one of the big-firm new partners.
