From a congresswoman to a U.S. district judge to successful trial lawyers to students at Texas Southern University School of Law, Aloysius M. Wickliff Sr. helped foster many legal careers over the years. Called “Papa Wick” by those closest to him, Wickliff is part father figure, part role model and part mentor to numerous Texas attorneys.

Since the early 1950s, Wickliff — who turned 82 in October — also championed the rights of individuals and fought against discrimination. His efforts in the courtroom touched the lives of countless individuals. A softspoken man, Wickliff is humble about the role he has played and the battles he has fought.
