The EEOC failed to prove a Dallas company’s hiring policy discriminated against African-Americans and males, a federal judge ruled on Aug. 9 when granting a summary judgment in a Title VII lawsuit.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission alleged in a complaint filed in 2009 that Freeman violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 through the use of a hiring policy that calls for a criminal history or credit record background check on potential employees. But U.S. District Judge Roger Titus of the District of Maryland issued a memorandum opinion on Aug. 9 finding the EEOC failed to prove Freeman’s use of criminal and credit background checks was discriminatory.
