Defendant found liable, but jury awards plaintiff paltry sum

On Feb. 1, a jury found a driver who suddenly changed lanes was to blame for a rear-ender, but it only awarded $466 to the plaintiff. Linnett Odhiambo claimed that Patricia Adair made an abrupt lane change and he couldn’t avoid hitting her. Odhiambo claimed a wrist injury, multiple soft-tissue injuries and bulging lumbar discs. The defense noted that the chiropractor, not a medical doctor or radiologist, read the X-rays, and the chiropactor shouldn’t have tried to evaluate disc space based on an X-ray. The award covered only past medical expenses.
