Family awarded $2.5 million for fatal crash

The family of a man who died in a plane crash was awarded $2.5 million on Sept. 27, 2012. In 2008, James Robinett was in a Piper airplane piloted by his brother-in-law, Harvey Kinikin Jr. They were landing at Port Mansfield Airport with low visibility and no control tower. Kinikin attempted a “visual” approach, although the weather conditions called for an “instrument” approach. The plane circled out over Laguna Madre and crashed into the water. Both men died. Robinett leaves a wife and two adult children.
