Plaintiff’s driver to blame for collision, jury finds

On June 29, a jury sided with the defendant who claimed that the crash was caused by the plaintiff’s driver. Tracie L. Williams sued Robert J. Hatfield, alleging that he failed to maintain a proper lookout and failed to avoid the collision. Williams was a passenger in a vehicle that had pulled onto the median and was stopped to make the left turn when the accident happened. Hatfield argued that he was driving in the center lane, when the plaintiff’s vehicle pulled from a parking lot on the right and attempted to cross three lanes of traffic to reach the intersection to make the left turn when the driver should have waited for him to pass, giving him the right of way.
