When it comes to litigation over the breakup of a law firm, few cases rival D. Brent Lemon v. Evan Lane (Van) Shaw. But in the end, the protracted suit was all for naught in the eyes of a Dallas County jury.

The two lawyer-litigants spent the past nine years trading allegations in a dispute over attorneys’ fees and client files they shared as partners in Shaw & Lemon. Lemon originally filed suit in 2003, and the case settled the following year after court-ordered mediation. But in 2007, Lemon filed a bill of review seeking to set aside the settlement agreement.
