A lifelong fisherman, 110th District Judge Bill Smith's proudest moment with a fishing rod came when he was just 12 or 13 years old. His grandfather, Bill Cushing, had taught Smith how to fish, along with many other life lessons. To relax from the sometimes-stressful job, he keeps up with his fishing hobby. Unfortunately, even though he still lives 25 miles from the family ranch, he can't fish in the ponds there anymore.

He went fishing with his father, grandfather and two other men, Smith recalls. The little boy caught the most fish — and also the largest single fish. It was an important accomplishment, especially because his grandpa was there.
