A challenge to a Democratic candidate in the race for presiding judge of the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, withdrawal of a Republican candidate in the same race and disqualification of another Republican candidate for a Texas Supreme Court seat marked the end of filing for the May 29 primaries.

On March 8, CCA Presiding Judge Sharon Keller filed a challenge to Democratic opponent Keith Hampton, an Austin solo, seeking to have him removed from the November ballot. Hampton filed amended petitions, and Rebecca Acuña, a spokeswoman for the Texas Democratic Party, says the party has certified Hampton for placement on the ballot.
