Double rear-ender results in $65,369 award

On Nov. 17, 2011, a jury awarded $65,369 to a woman who claimed back, neck and shoulder injuries in a double rear-ender. In 2006, Almeda Wilson was driving a mid-size car on Park Row Drive in Arlington. At or near the bottom of a steep downhill slope, she stopped to make a left turn. There was a taxicab station wagon behind her, driven by Abukahr Ateem. Rachel Horton, driving a mid-size car, rear-ended Ateem, who then rear-ended Wilson. She said her general quality of life continues to be affected by her injuries and she is no longer able to play with her grandchildren. The jury found Horton negligent, but not Ateem. Wilson’s damages were $65,369.
