Jury sides with female doctor seeking equal pay

On Nov. 14, 2011, a jury awarded $160,000 to a pathologist who claimed she wasn’t paid the same as her male colleagues. Dr. Lilia Wojcik worked for diagnostic-services provider Ameripath South Texas. Wojcik’s suit alleged that fellow Ameripath-employed physicians who were younger and male were better compensated than she had been during her years with the company. Wojcik sought back pay for three years. Judge Harry Lee Hudspeth let the case proceed on her Equal Pay Act claim, finding there were issues of material fact as to whether Wojcik’s pay differential had or had not been based on her gender.
