SUV driver not to blame for hitting pedestrian in crosswalk

On April 5, a jury declined to award damages to a pedestrian who was struck by a sport utility vehicle in a crosswalk. In 2009, Verna M. Sanders crossed West Slaughter Street in Austin when Antonio L. Castro was making a left turn. He ran into Sanders just before she reached the median. She fractured her leg. The defense argued that Castro had a protected left turn arrow and that Sanders didn’t keep a proper lookout. Also, the defense argued, Sanders’ testimony was inconsistent with the rest of the evidence.
