A judicial system overhaul bill passed the Texas House Tuesday, where lawmakers added 19 amendments and the bill survived possible death over a proposed abortion-related provision. The Senate passed its version of the bill April 26.

“I’m very glad that it passed. It’s a lot of work by a lot of people over a long time to get that court organization and administration bill done,” says Rep. Tryon Lewis, R-Odessa. This is the third legislative session in which lawmakers to consider the provisions included in Senate Bill 1717, he says.
