On Nov. 12, 2010, the owners of a pit bull that bit a girl’s face paid a $262,500 settlement. In 2008, Emily McPherson was visiting the home of Michael and Michelle Bustos. The defendants claimed the dog had never shown aggression before, and McPherson was negligent because she took a bone away from the animal after being warned not to. McPherson sustained lacerations to her lip and chin and a complex laceration under her nose. A permanent tooth was knocked out, and she lost two baby teeth.
